Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh delegation meets Dr Jitendra Singh

· The members of the delegation sought the minister intervention for grant of one-time relaxation from the ceiling of 5% for compassionate appointments in the Ministry of Defence.

· Bharatiya Pratiraksha Mazdoor Sangh "Indian Defence Workers Union", abbreviated BPMS) is a trade union in India, affiliated to the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, that organizes civilian workers in factories and other establishments under the Indian Ministry of Defence.

 

India and Kazakhstan sign Protocol to amend the Double Taxation Avoidance Convention (DTAC)

The protocol was signed for the avoidance of double taxation and for the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.

Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC) meet held in New Delhi

  • Financial Stability and Development Council is an apex-level body constituted by the government of India.
  • The idea to create such a super regulatory body was first mooted by the Raghuram Rajan Committee in 2008.
  • Finally in 2010, the then Finance Minister of India, Pranab Mukherjee, decided to set up such an autonomous body dealing with macro prudential and financial regularities in the entire financial sector of India.
  • The committee works under Ministry of finance.
  • Finance minister chairs the FSDC meetings.

SC wants paper trail in EVMs for fair poll

As the five States go to the polls, the Supreme Court has reiterated the necessity to implement the Vote Verifier Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) in electronic voting machines (EVMs) to ensure 100 per cent transparency in elections.

In the VVPAT system, when a voter presses the button for a candidate of his choice in the EVM, a paper ballot containing the serial number, name of the candidate and poll symbol would be printed for the voter.

Tamil Nadu becomes 21st State to join UDAY

  • By joining UDAY, Tamil Nadu becomes the 21st state to join UDAY scheme.
  • It would derive an overall net benefit of approximately Rs. 11,000 crores through UDAY, by way of savings in interest cost, reduction in AT&C and transmission losses, interventions in energy efficiency, coal reforms etc.
  • The state also signed 24X7 Power For All document on the occasion. With Tamil Nadu joining the cause, 92% of country’s Discom debt has been covered under UDAY
  • UDAY was launched by the Government of India on 20th November, 2015 to ensure a permanent and sustainable solution to the debt-ridden Distribution utilities to achieve financial stability and growth, now has 21 States in the Club after Tamil Nadu coming on board.
